On the eve of Victory Day, employees of the Volgograd office of Energia Yuga paid tribute to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. Flowers were laid and a 20-meter-long St. George's ribbon was unfurled in honor of the defenders of the Motherland at the "Bald Mountain" memorial complex.
The St. George's ribbon has become a symbol of Victory, remembrance, and the connection between generations, and the campaign of the same name has evolved into a national tradition uniting millions of people worldwide.
Bald Mountain is one of the highest points in Volgograd (145.5 meters), which is precisely why fierce battles took place here during the Battle of Stalingrad. In September 1942, German forces captured this height and attempted to turn it into a major stronghold of resistance. However, Soviet soldiers repelled the enemy time and again. The 64th Army under General Mikhail Stepanovich Shumilov held the defense here for 147 days. On November 5, 1968, a 20-meter obelisk dedicated to the soldiers of the 64th Army was solemnly unveiled at Height 145.5.
